DAB PUMPS - Agile Meets Manufacturing
Enrico Pana & Milena Rigon
SUMMIT LEAN AND AGILE 2022 - Tuesday, Oct. 11 Florence, Italy
Abstract
Companies and organizations are aware of the need to build adaptive systems, able to combine the effectiveness of processes with innovation in order to face a constantly increasing complexity.
And so DAB Pumps S.p.A is now facing increasingly challenging contexts. Precisely because they are characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and consequent ambiguity.
The spirit of innovation and the choice to embrace ambitious paths of change have led DAB to achieve great growth in recent years.
The theme is to create an "adaptive organization," wider and more horizontal than traditional hierarchical structures, where people are encouraged to make decisions independently and solve problems thanks to their attitude to problem solving, through experimentation and adaptation. This is to cope and react more effectively and efficiently to external demand and continuous change.
Starting in 2017 with the first 2 agile projects and about forty people involved, DAB today has 60 cross-functional global teams, with over 300 people engaged.
One of DAB's beliefs is that Agile does not mean applying a specific framework, obtaining certifications or having an agile coach in the company, but represents a predominantly cultural theme.
The same logic also guides our "people strategy," which promotes an organizational model that can constantly adapt through a network of cross-functional teams that grow, learn and innovate in a continuous cycle of learning and development.

Henry Pana
Head of the department of "people, cultures and continuous improvement"
My life path started as a programmer in VB, to the design and implementation of some ERP systems, going through the digitization of the Lean world of factory 4.0 and all the pillars of Supply Chain. My various certifications LeSS pratictioner, Scrum@Scale, PMP, ACP, CSM Scrum Master, CSPO Product Owner represent the basis for adopting an "adaptive" approach also in industrial and not only service environment.

Milena Rigon
Continuous Improvement Specialist
As a Certified Scrum Master and Product Owner, I am fully involved in increasing engagement and sharing the AGILE methodology as the most effective way to conduct projects and achieve rapid results. "Scrum is simple but not easy." Metaphorically, Scrum is like losing weight. Conceptually losing weight is quite simple: "Burn more calories than you take in." However, we all know that losing weight (implementation) is not at all easy for most people. Likewise, understanding Scrum is simple, but implementing it is definitely not easy!
